Grok Custom Connectors
xAI added custom connectors to Grok in 2026. You point Grok at a remote MCP server, and Grok finds its tools and uses them in chat, the same as its built-in connectors.
Remote servers only. Chat-app connectors reach your server over the public internet. A local stdio server (one you start with npx or uvx) will not work. On Skills Playground MCP pages, look for the Add as a Connector box — it only shows for remote servers and gives you the URL to paste.
Add a Custom Connector
- Go to grok.com/connectors
- Click New Connector, then Custom
- Paste the MCP server URL
- Complete the sign-in if the server asks for it
Grok then lists the server's tools. Custom connectors are on paid Grok plans.
Remote MCP in the xAI API
Developers can also give Grok remote MCP tools through the xAI API. You pass the server URL as a tool, and xAI handles the connection for you. This works in the xAI SDK and the OpenAI-compatible Responses API:

Find Servers to Add
Browse the MCP server directory and filter by the streamable-http or sse transport. Each remote server page has a Grok tab under Add as a Connector with the exact URL to copy.
