Add remote MCP servers to Gemini

Google calls connectors in Gemini Connected Apps. Since June 2026 you can add a custom app from any remote MCP server URL.

Remote servers only. Chat-app connectors reach your server over the public internet. A local stdio server (one you start with npx or uvx) will not work. On Skills Playground MCP pages, look for the Add as a Connector box — it only shows for remote servers and gives you the URL to paste.

Add a Custom App

  1. Open gemini.google.com and go to Settings → Connected Apps
  2. Under Custom apps, choose Add a custom app
  3. Paste the server URL and click Next
  4. Approve the connection in the browser

You can only add custom apps in the Gemini web app, and only in English for now. After you add one, it also shows in the Gemini mobile app.

Gemini Enterprise

On Gemini Enterprise – Business edition, go to Settings & help → Manage team → Connected apps and click Add MCP Server. The server must use the Streamable HTTP transport and a TLS certificate from a public CA. Self-signed certificates do not work.

Gemini CLI

Gemini CLI can also run local servers. Add them to ~/.gemini/settings.json:

Find Servers to Add

Browse the MCP server directory and filter by the streamable-http or sse transport. Each remote server page has a Gemini tab under Add as a Connector with the exact URL to copy.
